College of Temperate Sericulture
College of Temperate Sericulture SKUAST-Kashmir was established during the year 1980 as Sericulture Research Centre under the Sericulture Development Department (J&K Govt.) and was transferred to SKUAST in 1982 as the Division of Sericulture. This College is located on Srinagar Baramulla highway 18 Km away from Lal chowk. The college occupies an area of 20 ha with 02 hactares under operational buildings including Administrative-Block, Academic block, cold storage and Divisional laboratories. The college also has the facility of a boy’s hostel with the capacity of 20 rooms. The college is maintaining a rich and diverse collection of genetic resources of silkworm comprising of 42-races of varied origin including Japanese, Chinese, and Russian and from various regions of India viz Karnataka and West Bangal in addition to 57 mulberry accessions.
Generate qualified and trained human resource in sericulture for the state and country. Develop need based technology catering to the needs of the different groups of farmers of the state. Alleviate the socio-economic profile of the Sericulture through attracting and retaining youth in sericulture by providing and arranging periodic training and awareness programmes
Generate Human Resource. To continuously enhance the scope for Research & Development in silkworm breeding and in the development of new silkworm breeds in addition to supply of nutritive mulberry varieties for various agro-climatic zones of the J&K Union Territory.The Institute extends its expertise towards transfer of technology and in the extension activities of the Department of Sericulture Government of J&K.
To conduct research and disseminate the findings of research and other technical information through extension educa-tion programmes, besides generating skilled and trained manpower for the better management and administration of Sericulture Sector in Jammu & Kashmir UT.To impart education for undergraduate degree Program in Sericulture sciences B. Sc. (Hons) Sericulture and PG Sericulture degree Programs To implement programs for technology transfer and adoption by farmers and to promote seri-preneurship in temperate region through entrepreneurship development programs and agribusiness incubation.

The students of the Faculty are participating in various extra- /Co-curricular activities within and outside the university with brilliant performance.The students are regularly participating in various NSS activities like plantation/ cleanliness drive and other environmental awareness programmes. Similar performance is shown by our students in debates etc.
Faculty library make progress in its program to face challenges of information explosion by adopting information technology. Faculty library is providing quality services to the students, teachers & research scholars supporting teaching research & extension programs of the faculty.
Educational Institution all across the world are implementing different Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in order to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of different academic, administrative, research and extension related activities. Nowadays the process of learning has included learning using different means of Information & Communication Technology has become a new norm which has resulted in rapid increase in the investments made by different educational institutions in ICT and related services. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is a very helpful tool for providing good governance to the Faculty and its associated Divisions which brings change in the working of an Educational Institution.The ICT Lab was established as a constituent unit of Dean’s office of Faculty, SKUAST-K in order to establish a platform where the students in general and faculty members in particular will leverage from the investments made in establishment of the unit. The main focus of ICT lab at Faculty is to help students in understanding a technology in order to ignite them to apply the ICT as a facilitator in their corresponding domains.
