Farm Machinery & Power Engineering

Division of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering serves as one of the essential component of SKUAST-K; established in the year 2020 after restructuring of Division of Agricultural Engineering into College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology. The division was formed to pursue excellence in teaching, research and development, industrial collaboration and farmer’s hands-on training. The division offers M.Tech degree programmes since 2014 and accredited by ICAR, New Delhi. It has well equipped labs with good instrumentation facilities, dedicated faculty, has recognition at National level with good academic and research environments. The Division mainly offers courses to the under graduate (UG) degree programmes in Agricultural Engineering.  It also offers basic courses for other UG and PG degree programmes of   various faculties of SKUAST-K. This division is one of the pioneers in carrying out active research programmes in design and development in the field of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering covering the broad areas of machinery design, human factors in design of equipment, precision agriculture, tillage and traction study, automation and development of Implements and tools for hill agriculture. Division is promoting innovative capabilities of students and assist to get financial support from other sources. In addition to teaching, the division is involved in research and extension activities. The research is being conducted though University Research Project and also through external funding from difference funding agencies viz. DST, NATP, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, GOI, ICAR Extramural fund, Private agencies, etc. With regard to extension activities, trainings are being conducted under various external funded schemes and also through KVK. Division has also developed more than 25 technologies. Some of these technologies have been commercialized and are being used by the farmers of the region.
