The Division offers masters degree "M.V.Sc. in Veterinary Pathology" and PhD degree “Doctor of Philosophy in Veterinary Pathology”. The scheme for Masters Programme was approved in XVIII Academic Council Meeting (ACM) of SKUAST (forerunner of SKUAST-K) and the courses for the programme were approved in various Academic Council Meetings. The programme was instituted in 2006. PhD programme was instituted in the year 2008-09. The requirements for completing the degree programmes include course work and mandatory research (leading to Thesis) under approved programme. During the course work the students are prepared with formal classroom and laboratory instructions in various areas of pathology.Initially the Syllabi approved by the University Authorities for Masters and Doctoral programmes were followed.In order to bring uniformity with the institutions at national level, the Syllabi/resident instructions prescribed by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) have been adopted from 2012 (for both Masters & Doctoral Programmes) and are being followed currently.

The thesis research work provides students with the opportunity to investigate into various pathological and pathobiological aspects of animal or poultry diseases which may include - disease surveillance, anatomic pathology, diagnostic pathology, clinical pathology and elucidating disease mechanisms through an integrative approach based on histopathological, histochemical, immunohistochemical, immunopathological and molecular underpinnings. The investigations may be pursued under natural (spontaneously occurring) or experimental conditions.

The programmes provides a strong background in pathology and related sciences to prepare students for academic, research, teaching, and professional careers

  • V.Sc. in Veterinary Pathology

The Masters programme in Division of Veterinary Pathology offers a program of study leading to the

Master of Veterinary Sciences in Veterinary Pathology (M.V.Sc. Veterinary Pathology)

. It is a two (2) year (comprising of 4 semesters) (minimum) degree programme. The first semester is devoted to course work and second semester onward course-cum-thesis research work. Persons holding B.V.Sc. & A.H. degree are eligible for pursuing the degree programme.

Under old scheme for M.V.Sc. certain courses (totaling 14 Credit Hours) were designated ‘CORE COURSES’ which were compulsory for qualifying the degree. Besides these, there were a number of optional (elective) courses from which students had a choice to choose courses to complete the requisite credit load.The student were required to successfully complete a minimum of 28 credit hours of course work in the major and major-supporting fields and a minimum of 08 credit hours in one or two minor fields related to the major field and a minimum of 28 credit hours of research work. Out of 28 credit hours in the major and major-supporting field the student was to successfully complete not less than 20 credit hours in the major discipline specifically and 5 credit in major-supporting field.

As per the ICAR curriculum, adopted from 2012, all courses in major subjectprescribed for Masters are compulsory. The student is required to complete 29 credits in major including seminar and 11 credits in Major supportive (min:3) and Minor (min: 6). Besides he has to clear satisfactorily 4 Non Cd compulsory courses and 2 credits of NSS.
