Fisheries Resource Management


Division of Fisheries Resource Management (FRM) is one of the pioneering and basic units of the Faculty of Fisheries and started functioning since the inception of the Faculty of Fisheries. Kashmir being landlocked and also due to local climatic conditions, people of the region are fond of taking animal protein. Fish forms the choicest food mostly due to its various health benefits. Although J&K is having huge aquatic resources, and the fish produced is not sufficient to meet the demand, as the demand is many folds higher than the produce. In order to produce sufficient fish, Division of FRM has taken such initiatives which are and will definitely help in the production of fish both from capture and culture sectors. In this direction Division of Fisheries Resource Management (FRM) is presently involved in research activities like Fish & Fishery biology, Feeding and Reproductive biology, Fish Physiology, Endocrinology, Population Dynamics and Stock assessment. Division of FRM is offering BFSc, MFSc and Ph.D. The Division at present is having eleven (11) courses in UG progamme with a credit load of 28 (17+11) besides READY programme. Upto end of March, 2019 more than fifty (50) students have been awarded MFSc and nine students have been awarded Ph. D degrees in FRM.  The Division is also fully involved in Extension work especially with respect to fish conservation and management. The research activities of the Division can be assessed by the number of research papers published in various international and international journals with high impact factors. Faculty members and Research Scholars of the Division in the recent past have bagged so many awards
