Animal Nutrition


Animal Nutrition is an important component of Animal sciences to build excellence in education and training at undergraduate and post-graduation levels (MVSc & PhD); besides, is also engaged in imparting skillful training to the farmers and field functionaries of Developmental Departments. The Division was created on 24-04-2001 from erstwhile Division of Animal Production which was established on 11-09-1989. Earlier, the Division existed as a unit right from inception of Faculty of Veterinary Sciences in 1984. About 55-75% of inputs in livestock industry are through feeding alone. Therefore management of feeding system is a significant factor affecting the input-output ratio of livestock produce industry. Increased production of milk, meat and egg is directly dependent on type of feed consumed by the animal. The faculty of ANN is engaged in conducting applied research in the front line areas of animal feeding and nutrition for successful development of transferable technologies and package of practice on routine feeding and nutrition of livestock.
