The Directorate of Extension Education/ SAMETI as per the mandate has to reach the farming community not only for dissemination of new technological know-how but to resolve the problems on-spot.

The farm advisory services are carried as:

• To update the knowledge of officers of development departments and persons involved in transferring messages and latest farming techniques to the farmers.
• Interaction of farmers directly with the scientists of SKUAST-K, for on spot solution to the problems.  The service is carried out by the directorate through the organization of camps and visits.

Farm Advisory Services in the form of Disease Diagnostic Team visits, plant/animal clinical camps, Kisan Goshties and Kisan Melas have been intensified in the last decade. During the period 2001- September 2007 we have conducted 132 disease diagnostic visits to various villages. These visits of scientists to farmers have been doubled in last two years with the financial assistance of Govt. of India under SAMETI. Similarly, Kisan Goshities and Kisan Melas have also increased.

The Plant/Animal Disease Diagnostic Camps are now being held under KVK, KCC and other Govt. of India assistance programmes under SAMETI. The whole participation of subject-matter specialists under these activities has increased two fold.

From last three years Extension Week is being celebrated at the end of year by bringing farmers to SKUAST-K and by scientist's visits in the villages. An Exhibition of technology/technological products, sale of seeds of SKUAST-K released varieties, sale of planting material and information are displayed in a seven day open farmer's schools along with discussion with the farmers. Progressive farmers and resource persons are felicitated too for good work.
