The Directorate of Extension Education, a constituent unit of SKUAST-K, Srinagar came into existence in 1982 at Shalimar Sriangar with the great vision of promoting potential use of advanced agricultural technology by farmers. The wide spectrum focus of this unit has been towards fast and effective transfer of agricultural technology, development of human resources through enrichment of knowledge and wisdom, high level pursuit for total technology underpinning food safety, sustainability of rich resources of the State and income to all rural sections of the population in general and hilly farming community in particular. Mandate To create a better nexus between University Scientists and the farming community. Timely transfer of developed technology by University to the farming community. To arrange skilled demonstration, for establishment of adaptive research as On-farm Trials. Crop and Animal Science oriented trainings for agricultural resource manpower including in-service departmental officers. Vocational off-season trainings to agricultural labour including farming youth and women folk in selected fields / area. Taking up field cases to monitor and evaluate for impact of improved technology. Establishment of farm science clinics, organization of poly ambulatory clinics for on-spot treatment of animals. Information support to farmers through press and electronic media. Documentation and publication of information through bulletins, pamphlets, field operations calendars and weather forecasting messages. Holding of Kissan Melas / Goshties at district / divisional and state level. Mobilization of inputs and resource management. To execute and monitor extension projects (Transfer of technology) to farming community through ATIC, KVKs, Kissan Call Centre. To update the Scientific Information through publication of package of practices, extension journals (Zarai paigam) and monthly messages.
