The Library System of Sheri-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir, comprises of ‘Central Library’ (CL) at the main campus Shalimar, and five Faculty Libraries and ten Research Centre/Station Libraries all across the Kashmir & Ladakh. The Library System supports the teaching, research and extension programmes of the University. All the Libraries in the System have been computerised and barcoded. The services are rendered in an automated mechanism both through online and offline mode. Efforts have been made to facilitate the users with nascent information resources in the field of Agriculture and allied disciplines. A sound IT Infrastructure base and Network facility has been established in all the constituent Libraries of the System. The sources and services of the System have been made highly visible through a dynamic Webpage incorporated in the University website and has also a live Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). The Library Webpage has attracted researchers/ scholars of the valley. Details about the faculties is as under: 1. Faculty of Agriculture (FOA) Library at Wadura Sopore; 2. Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & AH (FVSc.) Library at Shuhama Srinagar; 3. Faculty of Fisheries, Rangil, Ganderbal (FOFy); 4. Faculty of Forestry, Benihama, Ganderbal; 5. Academic Programme

The Library System in addition to its routine work conducts a few instructional programmes in order to instill confidence among the scientists and students of the University to capitalize the wealth of information available within the Library System and in modern virtual libraries. In this regard one regular academic course is offered every semester and a few training programmes are conducted at regular intervals of time.
The course "Library Science and Technical Writing" Lib 601, previously offered as (1+0) has now been changed to (0+1). This is offered as a compulsory course to PG students of all streams/ disciplines in both Summer and Autumn semesters. On an average 50-60 students are allowed to register the Course in every academic year and educated about the efficient utilisation of the Library and Online Information Resources. Moreover, an orientation course of one-week duration is conducted every six months to impart necessary skill to teachers in efficient utilization of modern information sources, related application softwares and information technology gadgets. Highlights of the instructional activities during an academic year are exemplified in table below:
Academic Activity Number
Students who successfully cleared the course Lib 601 in Spring and Autumn semesters of year 2008 61
Students enrolled for the course Lib 601 in Spring 2009 43
Students whose comprehensive examination for Lib 601 was conducted during year 2008 38
Theses, which were checked to evaluate their format and tally the content of hard and their soft copies. 35

The Library System has a rich collection of abstracts of journal articles in digital/electronic form i.e. 11 CDROM Databases subscribed from 2003 with retrospective data from 1972 onwards. About 9.45 million research articles (bibliographical data along with the abstracts) are available in these databases. The CDROM Databases are the most widely sought after source of information. This information is available on local network of the library. The CDROM Databases are not only used by the scientists and students of SKUAST-Kashmir but also students, scholars and researchers of some premier institutions of the state like that of The University of Kashmir, Islamic University of Science and Technology, Degree Colleges and other Research Institutions of the state engaged in agro-biological research.
